What is excessive sweating?
Around 1% of the population suffers from excessive sweating which is also known as hyperhidrosis. Sweating is commonly shown on the hands, feet and armpits but can also be present on the face and other areas of the body.
Excessive sweating can happen at any time and there may not always be a reason for it. It affects both men and women and can be incredibly distressing, causing embarrassment and having an impact on daily life.
Some people are routinely troubled by excessive sweating whilst othes are only bothered when they are under emotional stress, physically active or over-heated.
Excessive sweating is usually an inherited condition but the good news is that it can be treated in the vast majority of cases.
What treatments do you use?
At Therapy House we use Botulinum Toxin which treats over 95% of cases of excessive sweating in the under arm area and provides relief for up to six months.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
You may benefit from Botulinum Toxin injections if you:
First, we will perform a painless starch test to locate the sweat glands, before using a micro-needle to inject small amounts of Botulinum Toxin into the skin of the underarms in approximately 12 to 15 places.
How long do the effects last?
The effects last for between three and six months.
Are there any side effects?
You’re advised to avoid heavy physical exercise for several hours, but apart from that you can just go about your normal routine.
