What are Dermal fillers?
As the skin ages, over time it loses some of its collagen and fat. These are the materials that prevent your skin from sagging. This means that our skin becomes wrinkled.
Dermal fillers (natural proteins) act as a cushion to gently lift out lines and wrinkles. They help to restore the skin to its youthful appearance by adding volume.
Dermal fillers can be used to improve the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines, laughter lines, crows feet, acne pits and marrionettes (the lines between your nose and mouth) as well as adding fullness to cheeks, cheekbones and lips.
What products do you use?
The dermal filler we use at Therapy House is Juvéderm® Ultra. This is a range of volume-restoring gels with a smooth consistency (unlike other fillers which are granular), meaning it flows easily into the skin for a subtle, natural appearance.
Essentially, Juvéderm® Ultra replaces lost volume and treats static facial lines by replenishing the natural hyaluronic acid content of the skin.
What does the treatment involve?
The filler itself is injected beneath lines in the skin, around the mouth, between the nose and lips or into deep vertical lower forehead lines. It’s done using a pre-filled syringe equipped with a very fine needle.
Fillers come in different thicknesses. In general, the thicker the filler, the deeper it will be injected into the dermal layer of the skin. This helps to plump out fine to deep lines and wrinkles.
How long does the procedure take?
A single treatment usually takes around 15-30 minutes.
How long do the effects last?
The product is absorbed naturally by your body over time but Juvéderm® Ultra's advanced formulation means its smoothing, softening effects last for 9 - 12 months.
Are there any side effects?
Immediately after treatment you may experience some swelling —this is totally normal. While the changes you notice at your first glimpse in the mirror may be bigger than you were expecting, you shouldn’t panic. Once the swelling has gone down, which could take a few days, you will see the final result.
